The white colour spots on the lips are caused due to abnormal secretion of oil by the sebaceous glands; sebum.  This particular oil when accumulated on lips acts as a breeding ground for bacteria and viruses.  There are home remedies that can be used to effectively treat these white spots on the lips, also known as Fordyce spots.

Garlic is known to decrease the number of bacteria that is present in the circulation of the bloodstream.  Therefore, consuming garlic will help in the reduction of Fordyce spots.  Make a drink of crushed garlic cloves blended with water and add some lemon juice.  This should be consumed before meals to get the best results.

Apple Cider Vinegar has antibacterial and astringent properties which eliminate bacteria.  Mix small equal amounts of apple cider vinegar with water.  Use a cotton swab to apply this mixture on the affected area; after 2+ hours you can rinse with hot water.  Do not repeat this more than twice a week.

Coconut oil will make your skin healthy and smooth.  Coconut oil possesses antimicrobial properties.  Make a mixture using a few drops of lavender oil and coconut oil, and apply this on the affected area; leave on for 2+ hours before rinsing off.

Jojoba oil is rich in pore tightening compounds such as vitamin E that help in the nourishment of skin on and around the lips.  Argan oil is easily absorbed by the skin and helps in the balancing of oil production in the skin.  Use a mixture of one drop each from both these oils and apply all over your lips; leave on for 8-10 minutes and then rinse off with water.

Topical treatments to shrink or remove Fordyce spots include bichloracetic acid, topical tretinoin (Avita, Retin-A) and oral isotretinoin (Sotret, Claravis).  Your doctor may recommend combining these topical treatments with laser treatments.  Note that they may produce side effects, such as inflammation and a burning sensation.
