What Band 20 is in relation to mobile phone reception

Post  forumtester on Sat May 12, 2018 8:29 pm

Note: This article pertains to the UK.

Band 20 refers to the 800mhz frequency, the lowest frequency used by mobile operators.

The lower the frequency, the wider the coverage area. Mobile operators use a range of frequencies, and don't offer all services across all frequencies.

For example, Virgin don't use the 800mhz frequency at all, hence you will notice no issues, whereas O2 only deliver 4G on their 800mhz frequency (4g.co.uk/4g-frequencies-uk-need-know/ ). As mobile operators work to drive costs down, by using lower frequencies that require less masts across a wider area, dependency on band 20 will increase.
